In My Life as a Dog by Jonathan Foer he describes that there is 1.4 million dogs living in New York. We would think that this is a odd place to own a pet due to the fact that there isn't much room to run and play. He addresses this when he mentions the law that requires dogs to be on a leash in the park from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to me this seems unfair because dogs need to run and play and most people would like to sleep around this time or have work around this time. If dogs don't get to play they start to act destructively and Foer mentions this by saying "In the years that dogs have been allowed to run free in city parks, dog bites have decreased by 90 percent." I don't tend to think about people with dogs in the city because I am fortunate enough to live in the country with my dog so he has plenty of room to play but after reading this it has given me a good insight to what people in the city have to deal with if they want to have a companion with them.
